How long will the supply of natural gas last?
The National Energy Board (NEB) estimates that Canada has enough natural gas potential resources and proven reserves to meet our demand for over a century. NB is connected to the larger North American system via the Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline and has access to this supply.
Existing local natural gas supplies such as Sable Island and Deep Panuke are estimated to last another 5-10 years.
The production of natural gas in New Brunswick from shale formations is under review as well. The Government of New Brunswick estimates that there is enough natural gas in NB alone to fuel the province for over 100 years.
